Carl Ashmore is an English author known for the Time Hunters children's book series. He graduated from Bournemouth University and previously worked for Granada Television and as a lecturer in film and media at Burslem College.

In "The Night They Nicked Saint Nick" by Carl Ashmore, seven-year-old Derek Brundle discovers a grey tuft of hair on Christmas Eve, signaling his transformation into the new Santa Claus. Suddenly, a soldier elf named Munkle appears and informs Derek that Father Christmas has been kidnapped. Over the next 24 hours, Derek must embrace his new role, complete with a fuzzy beard and jelly belly, to rescue Santa. Together, Derek and Munkle embark on an adventurous mission filled with edible steam trains, flying ice cream vans, and deadly robot toys. Join them in their race against time to save Christmas.
