Cormac McCarthy is an American author known for his gothic, western, and post-apocalyptic fiction. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his novel "The Road" and the PEN/Saul Bellow Award. Several of his works, including "No Country for Old Men," "All the Pretty Horses," "The Road," and "Child of God," have been adapted into films.

Cormac McCarthy's "All the Pretty Horses," the first installment of the Border Trilogy, follows John Grady Cole, a young man who believes he is the last true Texas rancher. Feeling out of place, he embarks on a journey to Mexico with friends in search of a new life. Their quest for the American Dream turns perilous, as they discover that dreams in Mexico are often paid for in blood. This compelling narrative was adapted into a film starring Matt Damon and directed by Billy Bob Thornton.
