Daphne du Maurier (1907-1989) was a renowned English author known for her novels, short stories, and plays. Three of her works—Rebecca, Jamaica Inn, and The Birds—were adapted into films by Alfred Hitchcock, and another, Don’t Look Now, was adapted by Nicolas Roeg. She came from a notable artistic family, with her grandfather and father both named George du Maurier, the former an artist and writer, and the latter an actor.
