David Gemmell
12 SeriesDavid Gemmell (1948-2006) was an English author renowned for his heroic and historical fantasy novels, including the Drenai Saga and Sipstrassi series. Initially struggling to write in the 1970s, he returned to writing after a misdiagnosed terminal cancer prognosis, resulting in his first published novel, Legend. Following the success of his third novel, Waylander, Gemmell became a full-time novelist.
David Gemmell's "Legend," initially published in the USA as "Against the Horde," follows the legendary exploits of Druss the Legend as he defends the fortress of Dros Delnoch against an overwhelming Nadir horde. In "Wolf in Shadow," also known as "The Jerusalem Man," Jon Shannow, the Jerusalem Man, battles to find the fabled city of Jerusalem amidst a post-apocalyptic world. "Fall of Kings," completed by his wife Stella Gemmell after David's death, concludes the epic tale of the Trojan War with a focus on heroism and betrayal. Under the pseudonym Ross Harding, Gemmell penned "White Knight, Black Swan," a gripping narrative of espionage and intrigue. Additionally, two of his works were adapted into graphic novels by Stan Nicholls, expanding his storytelling into the visual medium.
