Edwina Currie is an English author of both fiction and non-fiction, and a former politician. She served as a Member of Parliament for 14 years, working in Margaret Thatcher's government in the Department of Health. After leaving public office, she joined the BBC as a radio and TV presenter.

In "A Woman's Place," the sequel to Edwina Currie's "A Parliamentary Affair," Elaine Stalker MP grapples with the end of her close friendship with Roger Dickson as he assumes the role of Prime Minister. Recognizing her competence, Roger appoints Elaine as Junior Minister in a new government department. This position places Elaine in a challenging political environment, leading her to reflect on the difficulties women face in positions of power. As she navigates her new role, Elaine concludes that in the corridors of power, a woman's place is often fraught with obstacles.
