
Elmer Kelton
10 SeriesElmer Kelton (1926-2009) was an acclaimed American author of western fiction, notably the Texas Tradition and Texas Rangers series, set in his home state of Texas. A journalism graduate from the University of Texas at Austin and a World War II U.S. Army veteran, Kelton was honored as the greatest western writer by the Western Writers of America. He received eight Spur Awards and three Western Heritage Awards for his contributions to the genre.
Elmer Kelton, under various pseudonyms, authored several notable works. As Lee McElroy, he wrote "Joe Pepper," "Long Way to Texas," and "Eyes of the Hawk." Under the name Alex Hawk, he penned "Shotgun Settlement." "The Funeral of Tanner Moody" was a collaboration with John Jakes and Robert J. Randisi. Kelton also contributed to collaborative novels such as "Noah's Ride," "Legend," and "Lost Trails," working alongside distinguished authors like Judy Alter, Loren D. Estleman, and Louis L'Amour. The "Sons of Texas" series was written as Tom Early in collaboration with James Reasoner.
