10 SeriesErle Stanley Gardner (1889-1970) was an American author renowned for creating the Perry Mason series, as well as the Cool and Lam and Doug Selby series under the pseudonym A.A. Fair. Before dedicating himself to writing full-time, Gardner practiced law and contributed stories to pulp magazines. He was honored as a Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America and received an Edgar Award for his contributions to detective fiction.
Erle Stanley Gardner, writing as A.A. Fair, created the Donald Lam and Bertha Cool series. "The Case of the Burning Bequest" was adapted by Thomas Chastain from Gardner's work. "The Bigger They Come" was also published as "Lam to the Slaughter." "Give 'em the Ax" was alternatively titled "An Axe to Grind," and "Shills Can't Cash Chips" was also known as "Stop at the Red Light." "The D.A. Calls It Murder" originally appeared as "This is Murder," while "The Knife Slipped" was another work by Gardner under the A.A. Fair pseudonym.
