James M. Cain

James M. Cain was an American author and journalist renowned for pioneering the roman noir genre. He is best known for his hard-boiled crime fiction, several of which were adapted into successful films.

James M. Cain's debut novel, "The Postman Always Rings Twice," is a classic roman noir. The story follows Frank Chambers, a young drifter who begins working at a diner owned by Cora and her older husband. Frank and Cora, the beautiful young wife, start an affair. Desperate to escape her marriage, Cora convinces Frank to help her murder her husband. Their plan sets off a chain of events with unforeseen consequences.
