James McBride is an American author known for his historical fiction and non-fiction works, as well as a musician. His memoir, "The Color of Water," details his upbringing in a diverse, low-income family in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The book became a New York Times bestseller for two years and is widely used in educational curricula across the United States.
