James Thompson

James Thompson (1964-2014) was an American-Finnish author known for his Inspector Vaara crime fiction series. Born in eastern Kentucky, he spent his later years in Finland, where he became fluent in the language and earned a Master’s degree in English philology from the University of Helsinki.

Snow Angels, the first Inspector Vaara novel by James Thompson, is set during Kaamos, a period of darkness and cold in Finnish Lapland. The brutalized body of a Somali woman is discovered in the snow. Inspector Kari Vaara must navigate the challenging environment and the silent community to find her killer. The investigation uncovers the dark secrets hidden beneath the frozen surface of this Arctic region.
