Jackie Fierro, a perpetually nineteen-year-old pawnshop owner, receives a slip of paper marked "King City" from a man in a tan jacket, leading her on a quest that disrupts her routine. Simultaneously, Diane Crayton grapples with her shape-shifting son, Josh, who becomes increasingly curious about his long-absent father. As Diane searches to reconnect with Josh, she sees her ex everywhere, hinting at impending disaster.
