She holds an Agriculture degree from Washington State University and began her writing career with short stories for church publications before transitioning to romance and Christian mystery genres. McCourtney resides in southern Oregon with her husband.

Lorena McCourtney, under various pseudonyms, has authored a diverse collection of novels. As Jocelyn Day, she wrote "Tender Conquest," "The Steele Heart," "The Marrying Kind," "Island Fires," "Tarnished Rainbow," "Some Times a Lady," and "Glitter Girl." Under the name Lisa McConnell, she penned "River of Love."
