Louise Penny is a Canadian author renowned for her mystery series featuring Inspector Armand Gamache, set in Quebec. Her British-styled whodunit novels, inspired by Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers, have earned her multiple Agatha Awards. Prior to her writing career, she worked as a radio host and journalist for CBC.

In "Dead Cold," also published as "A Fatal Grace," Chief Inspector Armand Gamache investigates a murder during a curling match in the québécois village of Three Pines. The victim, a cruel woman, had alienated many, leaving Gamache to unravel a web of motives. In "A Rule Against Murder," known also as "The Murder Stone," Gamache is drawn into another case at a secluded resort where a family reunion turns deadly. A statue's fall kills one of the guests, and Gamache must navigate the family's secrets to find the killer. Both novels showcase Gamache's meticulous detective work and deep understanding of human nature.
