2 SeriesMeng Jin, a Chinese-American author, wrote the novel "Little Gods." Born in Shanghai, China, in May 1989, she now resides in San Francisco. Jin is a Kundiman Fellow, associated with an organization dedicated to Asian American creative writing, and a graduate of the Hunter College MFA program.
Meng Jin's debut novel, "Little Gods," opens with physicist Su Lan giving birth in a Beijing hospital on June 4th. Seventeen years later, after Su Lan's death, her daughter Liya, who grew up in America, returns to China with her mother's ashes. In China, Liya uncovers her mother's past through the memories of Zhu Wen, the last person to know Su Lan before she left China, and Yongzong, Liya's unknown father. Through these connections, Liya gains a deeper understanding of her mother's life and the silences she inherited.
