In M.L. Stedman's "The Light Between Oceans," Tom Sherbourne becomes a lighthouse keeper on the isolated Janus Rock after serving in World War I. He marries Isabel, and after enduring multiple pregnancy losses, they discover a boat with a dead man and a living baby. Isabel, believing the baby to be a gift from God, convinces Tom to keep her, naming her Lucy.
