Nevada Barr began her writing career with the historical novel "Bittersweet" in 1984, set in the Western frontier and focusing on lesbian characters. Her breakthrough came in 1993 with "Track of the Cat," the first book in the Anna Pigeon series. Barr has also ventured into other genres, including the psychological thriller "13 1/2" and a memoir.
