Robert N. Macomber is an American author known for his historical navy thriller novels, notably the Honor series. He has also served as a Department of Defense consultant, lecturer, and TV commentator. Macomber, who grew up on Florida's southwest coast, was an offshore racing skipper for 32 years.

In "At the Edge of Honor," the first book of Robert N. Macomber's Honor series, it is 1863 during the Civil War, and Peter Wake, a volunteer officer from the North, joins the U.S. Navy's East Gulf Blockading Squadron in Florida. Assigned to command the sloop Rosalie, Wake and his crew pursue Confederate blockade-runners along Florida's coast and near the Bahamas. Amidst his duties, Wake falls in love with Linda Donahue, complicating matters as her father is a Confederate supporter. Their relationship is tested as Wake navigates the moral dilemmas of war, pushing him to the brink of honor.
