Wen Spencer, an American author, is known for her science fiction and fantasy novels, including the Elfhome series. She has received the John W. Campbell Award and the 2003 Sapphire Award for Best Science Fiction Romance. Spencer resides in Hilo, Hawaii, with her family.

In "Eight Million Gods" by Wen Spencer, horror novelist Nikki Delany, driven by her OCD, finds herself in Japan to escape her mother's judgment. Her life spirals out of control when she is arrested for a murder eerily similar to one she blogged about, involving a blender. As reality unravels, Nikki is attacked by a raccoon in a business suit and begins to see a boy claiming to be a god, visible only to her. Amidst rising body counts and her mother's arrival to institutionalize her, Nikki fears she's either being pursued by Japanese myths or losing her sanity. Her novels always end with everyone dead, a fate she now fears for herself.
