Alan Orloff, an Agatha Award Finalist for Best First Novel for his debut "Diamonds for the Dead" (2010), resides in the Virginia suburbs. After earning an MBA from MIT/Sloan, he transitioned from business to writing fiction with his wife's support. Orloff enjoys watching his sons in dramatic productions and sports, reading, and playing poker.

After selling his company for millions, Colby Walker takes his family and his son's friend Jess on a vacation to relax. However, Colby notices signs of abuse on Jess, recognizing them from his own troubled past. Faced with a moral dilemma, Colby must decide whether to intervene on Jess's behalf. Can he trust the authorities, who failed him in his youth, to help? As Colby confronts his past, he must choose between protecting Jess and risking everything he has built.
