Charles Todd

8 Series

Charles Todd is the pen name of the American mother-and-son writing team, Caroline and Charles Todd. They are best known for their Inspector Ian Rutledge series, set in post-WWI England, and also feature characters Francesca Hatton and Bess Crawford. Caroline Todd passed away in 2021, but her son continues to uphold their legacy through ongoing works.

In "Watchers of Time," the fifth book in Charles Todd's Inspector Rutledge series, a priest is murdered after giving last rites in a Norfolk backwater. Assigned to the case, Inspector Ian Rutledge, a war-traumatized ex-officer, uncovers local secrets that complicate the investigation. His inquiries lead him from the marshes to the sinking of the Titanic, as he seeks to identify a mysterious passenger and survivor of the disaster. Rutledge must unravel layers of deception to solve the murder and stop a relentless killer.
