April Smith is an American author known for her historical fiction, crime fiction, and mystery novels, including the Ana Grey series. She has also made significant contributions to television as a writer and producer, working on series such as Lou Grant, Cagney & Lacey, and Chicago Hope, and adapting works by authors like Stephen King and Anna Quindlen. Smith holds a B.S. with Distinction in English from Boston University and a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing from Stanford University.

In "The Case of the Smoking Supervisor," the debut of April Smith's Canine Capers series, a workplace murder leaves Haley Ann Lethridge as the prime suspect due to her issues with the victim. Desperate to avoid jail and care for her spirited Siberian huskies, Haley must identify the real killer before the police arrest her.
