Barbara Vine was the pen name of acclaimed English author Ruth Rendell (1930-2015), renowned for her mystery and thriller novels. In Barbara Vine's "Fatal Inversion," a group of young people—Adam, Rufus, Shiva, Vivien, and Zosie—occupy Wyvis Hall during the summer of 1976, living off scavenged and stolen heirlooms. Ten years later, the bodies of a woman and a child are found in the Hall's animal cemetery. The central mystery revolves around the identities of the deceased and the events leading to their deaths.
