3 SeriesDonald Jack (1924-2003) was an English-Canadian author known for his historical fiction series, the Bandy Papers. He served in the Royal Air Force during World War II before relocating to Canada. In addition to his novels, Jack wrote numerous scripts for television, radio, and the stage.
In "Three Cheers for Me," the first book of the Bandy Papers series by Donald Jack, fourth-year medical student Bartholomew Bandy enlists in the war in 1916. Expecting to maintain his cleanliness and virtue, Bandy is unaware of the challenges his bland, horse-like face and accident-prone nature will bring. Set against the backdrop of trench warfare, his journey intertwines with both fictional characters and historical figures such as the King, Lester Pearson, and Winston Churchill. As Bandy navigates the realities of the front lines, the war profoundly impacts him, and he, in turn, leaves his mark on those he encounters.
