Earl Derr Biggers (1884-1933) was an American author best known for creating the Charlie Chan series of crime fiction novels. He graduated from Harvard University and began his career writing a daily humor column for the Boston Traveler before transitioning to drama criticism. His wife, Elanor Ladd, significantly influenced his writing.

Charlie Chan in the Pawns of Death, written by Bill Pronzini and Jeffry Wallman under the pseudonym Robert Hart Davis, follows Detective Chan as he unravels a complex murder mystery involving pawn shop dealings. In Charlie Chan in The Temple of the Golden Horde, authored by Michael Collins (also as Robert Hart Davis), Chan investigates a series of crimes linked to an ancient temple. Both novels showcase Chan's astute detective skills and cultural insights as he navigates intricate plots and diverse characters.
