Eleanor Taylor Bland (1944-2010) was an American author known for her crime fiction novels featuring the character Marti MacAlister. She held a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and education from Southern Illinois University and worked at Abbott Laboratories until 1999. Despite being diagnosed with cancer and given a two-year prognosis, Bland lived nearly 40 more years.

"Shades of Black" is the first anthology of African-American mystery writers, featuring a diverse collection of crime and mystery stories. Edited by Eleanor Taylor Bland, it includes works by prominent authors such as Walter Mosley and the late Hugh Holton. The anthology showcases the rich variety of the African-American experience through the art of storytelling. Contributors include Frankie Y.
