
Fritz Leiber
9 SeriesFritz Leiber (1910-1992) was an American author renowned for his contributions to fantasy, horror, and science fiction. He is considered one of the founders of the Sword and Sorcery genre, alongside Robert E. Howard and Michael Moorcock. Leiber is best known for his Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser series.
Fritz Leiber's "Gonna Roll the Bones," illustrated by David Wiesner, follows a gambler's high-stakes game with the personification of Death. "The Sinful Ones," also known as "You're All Alone," explores themes of isolation and paranoia. "Farewell to Lankhmar," later retitled "The Knight and Knave of Swords," concludes the adventures of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser. Leiber co-authored "Lords of Quarmall & Beacon to Elsewhere" with Harry Fischer, and contributed to "Science Fiction Collection 001" with Harry Harrison and "Science Fiction Collection 002" with Kurt Vonnegut. "Swords Against the Shadowland," co-authored with Robin W. Bailey, extends the Fafhrd and Gray Mouser saga into new realms.
