Ishmael Beah, a Sierra Leonean author, writes both literary fiction and non-fiction. He emigrated to the United States in 1998 and graduated with a B.A. in political science from Oberlin College. Beah serves on the Human Rights Watch Children’s Rights Division Advisory Committee and frequently speaks on the impact of war on children. He resides in New York City.

In "Radiance of Tomorrow," Ishmael Beah follows Benjamin and Bockarie as they return to their war-torn hometown, Imperi. The village lies in ruins, yet they attempt to rebuild by resuming their roles as teachers. As more villagers return, the community faces severe challenges: scarcity of food, violent crimes, and exploitation by a foreign mining company. Amidst these struggles, Benjamin and Bockarie strive to restore order and confront the uncertainties of their past and future.
