Jennifer Egan is an American novelist born in Chicago and raised in San Francisco. She earned an M.A. from St. John's College, Cambridge, and has also contributed to the New York Times Magazine as a journalist.

In "The Keep" by Jennifer Egan, two cousins damaged by a childhood prank reunite after twenty years to renovate a medieval castle in Eastern Europe. Isolated and paranoid, they reenact their traumatic past with devastating consequences. As their situation deteriorates, a prisoner narrates a story that intertwines their past and present crimes. This standalone novel explores the haunting effects of history and the inescapable nature of guilt.
