Julian Stockwin, an English author, is known for his Kydd Sea Adventures series of nautical historical fiction. He served in the Royal Navy from age 15, later transferring to the Royal Australian Navy for eight years, and retired as a Lt. Commander in the Royal Navy Reserve, earning an MBE. Stockwin began writing in 1996 after returning to the UK in 1990.

In "Kydd," the first installment of Julian Stockwin's Kydd Sea Adventures, Thomas Kydd, a young man from Guildford, is pressed into service aboard the Duke William battleship. Thrust into the harsh realities of naval life, Kydd must quickly adapt to survive. As he faces the perils of battle, he grows to admire the skill and bravery of his fellow sailors. Driven by a newfound respect for the sea and its challenges, Kydd is determined to become a true sailor and defend Britain.
