Karin Alvtegen is a Swedish author known for her Scandinavian crime fiction and psychological thrillers. She won the Glass Key award in 2001 and has been nominated for several other prestigious awards. In addition to her novels, Alvtegen has contributed to a Swedish soap opera and written a screenplay. She resides in Stockholm and is the great-niece of Astrid Lindgren, author of Pippi Longstocking.

In Karin Alvtegen's "Missing," a homeless woman convinces a businessman to buy her dinner and a room at the Grand Hotel. The next morning, the businessman is found dead, and all evidence points to her. When another murder occurs under similar circumstances, she becomes Sweden's most wanted fugitive.
