Maggie Furey (1955-2016) was an English author renowned for her YA fantasy series, Artefacts of Power. A qualified teacher from Northumberland, she also reviewed books for BBC Radio and served as an advisor for the Durham Reading Resources Centre. Furey was a long-time resident of County Wicklow, Ireland.

Aurian, the first book in Maggie Furey's Artefacts of Power series, follows the journey of a young mage who discovers the lost history of four magical weapons. Sent to Nexis to train at the Academy, Aurian becomes entangled in a power struggle between the Archmage Miathan and the city's human inhabitants. With the help of Forral, the military commander and friend of her late father, she uncovers the first Artefact amidst a deadly conflict. Fleeing with her servant Anvar, Aurian's odyssey leads her to the Southern Kingdoms, where she begins to unravel the secrets of the Artefacts, the only hope against Miathan and impending Armageddon.
