Martin Cruz Smith is an American author renowned for his mystery novels, notably "Nightwing" and the Arkady Renko series. Before his fiction career, he worked as a journalist for four years. Smith has received the British Crime Writers’ Association’s Gold Dagger Award and the Dashiell Hammett Award twice from the International Association of Crime Writers’ North American Branch.

Martin Cruz Smith authored several works under various pseudonyms. The Inquisitor series and Human Factor were written as Simon Quinn. Tokyo Station, also published as December 6, is another of his works. He contributed to the Nick Carter: Killmaster series under the house name Nick Carter. The Adventures of the Wilderness Family was penned as Martin Quinn, and Ride for Revenge was written under the pseudonym Jake Logan.
