Qiu Xiaolong is a Chinese author known for his Inspector Chen series of crime thrillers, as well as a poet and translator. He moved to the United States to write a book on T.S. Eliot and has since remained in St. Louis, Missouri, due to political reasons. He lives there with his wife and daughter.

"Lines Around China" by Qiu Xiaolong is a poetry collection divided into three sections. The first section, "Lines Out of China," features poems composed in the U.S. The second, "Lines in China," includes poems written during the author's trips to China and translations of older Chinese poetry. The final section, "Cathay Revisited," presents Qiu's translations of classical Chinese poetry.
