Robin McKinley is an acclaimed American author known for her young adult fantasy novels. Her childhood, marked by frequent moves due to her father's Navy career, inspired her writing. McKinley has also worked in various roles including editor, teacher, and researcher. She resides in England with her husband, Peter Dickinson.

In "The Outlaws of Sherwood" by Robin McKinley, Robin Longbow, a sub-apprentice forester, accidentally kills the Chief Forester's favorite and becomes a fugitive. He flees into Sherwood Forest, where he is joined by his friends Much and Marian. As more Saxons, oppressed by Norman lords, rally to his cause, Robin forms a community of outlaws. Together, they fight for justice and freedom, risking execution to challenge their oppressors.
