In "Odinn's Child," the first book of Tim Severin's Viking series, Thorgils Leiffson arrives in Greenland in 1001 as a toddler and is raised by Gudrid. Possessing quick intelligence and second sight inherited from his mother, Thorgils grows up under the guidance of various mentors who teach him ancient ways. His restless quest for adventure, driven by his devotion to Odinn, leads him into numerous perilous situations, including battles, diseases, and shipwrecks. As he navigates these challenges, Thorgils remains aware of the encroaching influence of Christianity on the lands of the Old Gods. His journey is one of survival and discovery, set against the backdrop of a changing world.
