Alissa Nutting is an American author known for her literary fiction novels. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and an MFA from the University of Alabama. Nutting has taught creative writing at several institutions, including John Carroll University, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and currently at Grinnell College.

In "Tampa" by Alissa Nutting, Celeste Price, a 26-year-old middle-school teacher, seduces her 14-year-old student, Jack Patrick. Jack, captivated by Celeste, agrees to a secret relationship involving late-night car rides and intimate encounters in her classroom. Celeste's sociopathic pursuit of pleasure drives her to deceive everyone around her. Her remorseless actions and single-minded focus on her own desires define her character.
