In Anthony Powell's "A Question of Upbringing," the first book of the "Dance to the Music of Time" series, protagonist Nick Jenkins navigates life at a 1920s boarding school with friends Peter Templer, Charles Stringham, and Kenneth Widmerpool. Their school days are marked by pranks and visits from relatives, often targeting their housemaster, Le Bas. A dangerous car trip orchestrated by Templer strains their friendship. As the academic year ends, the young men confront the looming realities of adulthood and their future roles in society.
