He gained prominence with his debut memoir, "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius," which detailed his experiences raising his younger brother after their parents' early deaths. Eggers founded McSweeney's, a successful publishing house, and resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife, writer Vendela Vida.
