She holds a journalism degree from the University of Iowa and began her career writing pulp fiction under various pseudonyms, including Don Pendleton. Lynds co-authored the Covert-One series with Robert Ludlum and is the widow of novelist Dennis Lynds.
Gayle Lynds has contributed to several notable series and collaborative works. She co-authored the Nick Carter: Killmaster novels under the pseudonym Nick Carter. The Don Pendleton's Mack Bolan series was written with Mark Sadler under the name Gayle Stone. Lynds also collaborated with Robert Ludlum on the Covert-One series. Additionally, she participated in the multi-author projects The Copper Bracelet and No Rest for the Dead, and her novel The Book of Spies was also published as The Library of Gold.
