Ian Tregillis is an American author known for his science fiction and alternate history novels, including the Milkweed Triptych series. He holds a doctorate in physics from the University of Minnesota, obtained in 2002. Tregillis honed his writing skills at the Clarion Writers’ Workshop in 2005.

In Ian Tregillis's "Something More Than Night," the murder of the angel Gabriel and the disappearance of the Jericho Trumpet trigger a cosmic crisis. A group of rogue angels plans to escape Heaven, using a human as their pawn. The narrative follows Bayliss, a fallen angel inspired by Philip Marlowe, as he unravels the billion-year-old con job behind the murder. Bayliss navigates a classic noir storyline, complete with a mysterious woman, police interrogations, and dangerous encounters. The investigation leads to a revelation far greater than a simple murder.
