Jonathan Franzen, an American author, is known for his literary fiction and non-fiction works. Born near Chicago and raised outside St. Louis, Missouri, he graduated from Swarthmore College in 1981. Franzen furthered his education as a Fulbright scholar at the Freie Universität in Berlin and later worked in a seismology lab at Harvard University’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
