3 Series

Lawrence Hill, a Canadian author, has written both fiction and non-fiction, focusing on identity issues influenced by his mixed-race heritage. He holds a B.A. in economics from Laval University and an M.A. in writing from Johns Hopkins University. Hill's work spans his experiences living in Canada, the U.S., Spain, and France.

Lawrence Hill's "Someone Knows My Name," also published as "The Book of Negroes," follows the life of Aminata Diallo, an African woman kidnapped into slavery. The novel chronicles her harrowing journey from her homeland to the plantations of the South, and her eventual escape to freedom in Nova Scotia. In "The Deserter's Tale," co-authored with Joshua Key, Hill recounts Key's experiences as a U.S. soldier in Iraq, his disillusionment with the war, and his subsequent desertion and flight to Canada. Both works explore themes of resilience, identity, and the search for freedom amidst adversity.
