She lived in Tokyo for a year and a half on a Daiwa Anglo Japanese Foundation scholarship, researching her debut novel, The Watchmaker of Filigree Street. In 2016, she conducted research in Peru for her novel The Bedlam Stacks. Pulley resides in Bath, Somerset, England.
