In Pierce Brown's "Red Rising," the first book of the Red Rising Trilogy, Darrow, a member of the lowest caste known as Reds, toils to make Mars habitable, unaware that humans already live there. Discovering his people are enslaved by their rulers, Darrow vows to infiltrate the Institute, a training ground for the ruling Golds. There, he must compete against the Golds' elite to gain power and overthrow his oppressors. Darrow is willing to sacrifice everything, even his identity, to bring down the society that has betrayed him.
