Ross Thomas (1926-1995) was an American author known for his crime fiction, mystery, and thriller novels, including the Mac McCorkle, Philip St. Ives (as Oliver Bleeck), and Arthur Case Wu series. Before becoming an author, he served in World War II and worked in public relations, with the Armed Forces Network, as a union spokesman, and a political strategist. His thrillers often explored political themes. Thomas passed away at age 69 from lung cancer in Santa Monica, California.

Ross Thomas authored the Philip St. Ives series under the pseudonym Oliver Bleeck. The novel "The Procane Chronicle" was alternatively titled "The Thief Who Painted Sunlight." Additionally, Thomas co-authored the non-fiction book "Warriors for the Poor" with William H. Crook. These works highlight Thomas's versatility across genres and collaborative efforts in literature.
