Daniel Kalla

In "The Far Side of the Sky," the first book of the Shanghai/Adler Family series, Daniel Kalla sets the scene in 1938 Shanghai during World War II. As the Japanese Imperial Army tightens its grip on the city, it remains the last refuge for European Jews. Dr. Franz Adler escapes to Shanghai with his daughter and encounters Soon Yi “Sunny” Mah at a refugee hospital. Together, they struggle to keep the hospital operational and their families united amidst the chaos of war.
