2 Series

Jack Batten is a Canadian author renowned for his Crang Mystery series. Initially focused on non-fiction, he transitioned to fiction in the 1980s. The Crang series debuted in 1987 with "Crang Plays the Ace."

In "Silent in an Evil Time: The Brave War of Edith Cavell," Jack Batten chronicles the life of Edith Cavell, a nurse who transformed her institute into a leading training center at the onset of World War I. Recruited to aid an organization helping British and French soldiers escape German lines, Edith used her hospital as a sanctuary and devised a secret route through Holland. Her efforts enabled a thousand soldiers to return home, but her eventual capture turned her into a symbol of resistance and a rallying point for the war effort.
