She holds a Biology degree from Carleton College and an MBA from the University of Minnesota. Wrede began her writing career post-college, publishing her first novel in 1978 while working as an accountant/financial analyst, and later co-founded the Scribblies writing group.
The Cecelia and Kate series, co-authored by Patricia C. Wrede and Caroline Stevermer, follows the magical adventures of cousins Cecelia and Kate in an alternate Regency England. In "Sorcery & Cecelia," the cousins navigate a world of spells and intrigue while uncovering a plot involving the mysterious Stone of Dunkeld. "The Grand Tour" sees them traveling across Europe, encountering new magical challenges and romantic entanglements. "The Mislaid Magician" concludes their saga as they solve the mystery of a missing magician amidst industrial revolution-era tensions. "Points of Departure," co-authored with Pamela Dean, explores alternate histories and the consequences of different choices made by the characters.
